Comments: A refugee boy by the name of Gunther Katz lodged with my father-in-law's family in Antwerp, Belgium before the outbreak of the war. He was born in 1929. This does not appear in the biography. Do you know if this could be the same Gunther Katz?
Admin reply: Hello David -- Thank you for the post but my father was never in Antwerp, Belgium. It is quite a coincidence that the birth years are the same (1929.) Good luck with your search - Steven

Comments: Gunter and Susie were valued friends of my mother, Kathe Weiner. She saved and shared with me many fine things you both had written. So I feel that I was in touch with your lives until 2007 at least.
My deepest condolences to you. I hope you find and take comfort from your many good friends. I have. Love, Helen

Comments: Gunther was my mum's cousin. My mum, Inge, grew up in Hamburg in the north of Germany and Gunther, nine years younger, in Speyer in the south west. It was only after the war and the tragedy of the holocaust that they grew close. Typically Gunther made sure that the British branch of the family were kept close. Of all the many, many good things to record of Gunther's life, I'd like to mention just two: firstly, his remarkable ability to hold family and friends together; to never let us go. He understood the value and power of kinship and friendship like few others. Secondly his shining decency. He was a model of quiet courtesy, of tolerance, of doing the right thing. He didn't always choose the easy course. He always chose the right course. He will always be a big part of our lives.

Comments: And it is now, after time has passed, that we begin to realize what has passed from our planet on to other realms. And for someone as amazing and wonderful as I've known Gunther to be, the person is missed all the more. (Say "hi" to Dad.)

Comments: Heaven has received a real jewel and we are left to treasure our memories of a gentleman and a gentle man. Feeling so fortunate to have known Gunther, cherishing remembrances of his warmth and humor, appreciating as always his strength of character and his love of family, I send my heartfelt sympathy to Susie (my friend from 5th grade) and all of those who loved him.
